An artist who is equally informed by his classical training, love of Jazz, and childhood playing rock music (primarily with his father John Carpender), Henrys playing and writing is a charming blend of punchy, sensitive, quirky, and dripping with love for life and self expression. Henrys dedication to music making began at age 13 when he played his first gig with the much beloved local band Expo 76. Since then, through both his education and the beginning of his professional freelance career, Henry has been fortunate enough to share the stage with Dag Juhlin, Billy Harper, Robbie Fulks, Tanya Darby, Cathy Richardson, NRBQ and the Canadian Brass. Henry has also enjoyed a healthy start to a career as a private instructor and group music educator, running a small studio of dedicated middle and high schoolers across the Chicagoland area. When hes not playing or teaching, he can be found playing video games, cooking a new dish, or relaxing on Montrose beach.This show will be an opportunity to premier new work, revisit some favorites, and share arrangements of some of Henrys favorite artists. FITZGERALDS SIDEBAR PRESENTS:THE DAVE MILLER TRIOCombining major stints in both New York City and Chicago and numerous tours abroad, Dave Miller has cultivated a truly unique, exciting, and inviting approachto songwriting, improvisation, and the guitar. He has served as a consummate side person to such luminaries as jazz songwriter Patricia Barber (Blue Note Records), the Joe Policastro Trio, Ted Sirotas Rebel Souls (Delmark Records), Greg Wards Rogue Parade and Brazilian composer Clarice Assad, with whom he served as an artist in residence for Jazz at Lincoln Center. Local highlights include appearances at the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Green Mill, the Jazz Showcase, and the Chicago Symphony Center. FITZGERALDS SIDEBAR Presents: BRASS QUEENS Brass Queens is a female-led, New York-based brass band that has been dominating the brass band scene since 2019. Finding that they shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in New York City, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel came together to form a group dedicated to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dominated by male musicians and bandleaders. After debuting in March 2019, Brass Queens grew to be a fixture in the local music scene and was dubbed the hardest working band in town by their peers. The Queens gained a dedicated following through outdoor performances on the streets of Brooklyn and playing pop-up events in their community through the pandemic. Now, a core value of the band is to play for as many audiences as possible to increase the visibility of female musicians. FREE SHOW!
