A live music night on the radar.

The Japanese metal band Sigh was formed in Tokyo in 1990 by multi-instrumentalist Mirai Kawashima and has, for more than three decades, stood as one of the most distinctive and experimental names in the genre. Their debut album Scorn Defeat was recorded in 1993 and released the following year, establishing Sigh as an early Japanese contribution to the international black metal scene. Over the following years, the band developed its sound considerably through releases on Cacophonous Records, including Infidel Art, Hail Horror Hail, and Scenario IV: Dread Dreams. Hail Horror Hail in particular received international acclaim and is often cited as one of the most important metal albums of the 1990s. Following moves to Century Media and later Season of Mist, Candlelight, and The End Records, the band explored increasingly progressive, symphonic, and avant-garde territory, as heard on albums such as Imaginary Sonicscape, Hangman's Hymn, and Scenes from Hell. After more than 30 years of artistic evolution, this journey culminated in Shiki (2022), an album performed entirely in Japanese and featuring traditional instruments. Sigh is renowned for its theatrical live performances and has appeared at numerous major festivals around the world, including Hellfest, Roadburn, and Metal Magic Festival. Devil Master is an American black metal and punk band from Philadelphia, formed in 2015. The group emerged from a shared appreciation of early Japanese hardcore and combines that influence with elements of black metal and deathrock. After releasing two quickly sold-out demos, Devil Master signed with Relapse Records and issued the compilation Manifestations (2018). Their debut album, Satan Spits on Children of Light, followed in 2019 and brought the band international recognition. In 2022, they released Ecstasies of Never Ending Night, showcasing a more mature and nuanced sound. Devil Master is known for its theatrical live performances, corpse paint, and a consistent aesthetic rooted in occultism and dark spirituality.
